Directions:

Hownsgill Bunkhouse, Tea-room and Caravan Park is uniquely situated on the Lydgetts Junction, which is an ideal location from which to explore NCN routes 7 and 14.

Travel east along the Consett to Sunderland C2C route, which is built on one of the country’s oldest railways (the Stanhope to Tyne), and incorporates the delightful Sculpture Trail.

Alternatively the western path, the Waskerley Way, takes you over the fabulous Hownsgill Viaduct with its breath-taking views over valleys and moorland.

Along route 14, the Lanchester Valley (Consett to Durham) allows for 12 miles of easy-going walking or cycling, with picturesque views over open countryside.

The Derwent Walk, on the other hand, passes through the former Steel Works site into a beautifully wooded route towards Swalwell and the largest retail shopping centre in Europe: The Metro Centre.

There are also stamping stations and two cycle shops located in nearby Consett town centre.
