For those wishing to make more than an overnight stay, Hownsgill is an ideal base from which to access a wide range of activities and facilities in the surrounding area - golf; fishing; Beamish Museum; shopping in Newcastle; historic Durham, Hexham and the Metro Centre to name but a few. Consett Town Centre is approximately a mile away and offers a choice of supermarkets, take-aways, fast food, outlets, pubs, and night clubs. There is also a good range of friendly country pubs in the area, many of which also offer a decent menu for meals.
